Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are non-surgical and can be helpful to patients with early signs of aging.

As we age, our skin loses collagen and elasticity. Areas that previously had healthy amounts of subcutaneous fat (fat that sits under the skin instead of visceral fat which sits over the organs) in our twenties and thirties begin to lose their natural fullness. The skin over these areas stretches as the facial muscles work closer and closer to the skin’s surface. This causes facial lines, creasing, and sagging.

Dermal fillers are aesthetic medicine’s non-invasive (non-surgical) answer to these volume and wrinkle concerns. They can be helpful to patients with early signs of aging, or can even be included in facial surgeries to augment a desired result.

If you put dermal filler on a spoon, it would look like a clear gel varying in thickness. In fact, different brands of dermal fillers offer varying degrees of consistency for different areas of the face.

Dermal fillers can soften facial wrinkles or creases, plump the lips, improve the appearance of scars, rejuvenate shallow contours, and even restore the youthful look of a face. Depending on the particular area of concern, our physicians will determine what treatments would best fit the needs of each particular patient.

Neuromodulators

Botox, Dysport, Xeomin are used to temporarily soften and reduce early signs of aging.

Neuromodulators, also known as neurotoxins, go by many different names. The most common known to most patients is Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®. These Neuromodulators have many different implications, but our physicians primarily use them for the temporary softening and reduction of early signs of aging.

What are Neuromodulators or Neurotoxins?

Neuromodulators (neurotoxins) are a form of Botulinum toxin. By injecting botulinum toxin into the muscle beneath the skin, the release of its neurotransmitter by the nerve cells is inhibited. This prohibits the nerve signals from being released, causing the muscle not to move. When the face starts to age, the subcutaneous fat that lies just beneath the skin’s surface depletes – thereby allowing the muscle beneath the skin to work closer to the skin’s surface, causing wrinkles or creasing. By temporarily freezing the muscle beneath the skin by injecting botulinum toxin, a patient experiences a proven softening and reduction in the surface wrinkle’s appearance. The injection temporarily diminishes wrinkles without disturbing normal function.

Typical areas of neuromodulator treatment are the forehead and creases of the eye (crow’s feet). Sometimes, our physicians may suggest a combination of dermal fillers and neuromodulators in different areas of the face for optimal results.

Rosacea Treatment

We use a combination of non-invasive laser and light therapy to diminish redness associated with the skin condition.

Rosacea is a common chronic skin condition characterized by redness and visible vascular lesions (blood vessels) in the face. Sometimes, redness persists for weeks to months before diminishing for a short period while other patients experience redness at all times.

Though it can affect anyone, most cases of rosacea occur in women with fair skin between the ages of twenty to fifty and the condition appears to worsen over time. More than forty-five millions Americans are affected by rosacea2 today.

There is no cure for rosacea, but Midland Dermatology uses a combination of non-invasive laser and light therapy to diminish redness associated with the skin condition. Our laser targets red and purple pigments beneath the skin, reducing unwanted discoloration while safely sparing the surrounding area.

Pigment Reduction

Liver spots, dark spots, sun damage, and unwanted freckles are examples of pigmentary concerns that may require laser or light therapy for correction.

Unwanted pigment is a difficult skin concern to treat at home. In fact, brightening agents in skin care products are usually not enough to fully reduce or diminish pigmentation. Liver spots, dark spots, sun damage, and unwanted freckles are all examples of pigmentary concerns that may require laser or light therapy for correction.

Many older technologies only work on certain skin types – they target pigment beneath the skin so darker skin colors experienced less success with traditional therapies. Midland Dermatology’s new XEO laser provides treatment for many different cases with its different wavelengths and modalities.

Vascular Lesion Removal

We offer a non-invasive light-based treatment to safely and successfully remove unwanted vascular issues.

Whether from age, sun damage, or pregnancy, fifty percent of women over the age of eighteen suffer from vascular lesions. Typical areas of affliction include the legs, arms, flanks, nose, and face and are frequently termed “spider veins” by our patients. They can appear red, blue, or purple in color though each individual case is unique based on patient age and skin type.

Most patients with discolorations or vascular lesions on the face prefer non-invasive treatments to correct these imperfections. Midland Dermatology offers a non-invasive light-based treatment to safely and successfully remove unwanted vascular issues.

Skin Revitalization

We offer treatment to help reduce pore size, as well as reduce wrinkles or the skin’s “crepey” appearance.

Uneven skin tone is a common concern for most patients. It appears in a variety of ways, but the primary culprits are pigmentation, pore size, and wrinkles. Most symptoms of uneven skin tone are systematic or hereditary, but can worsen due to factors such as sun damage, age, or pregnancy.

Pore Size
Other than genetics, pore size is most commonly affected by a patient’s hygienic habits over time. When oil (or sebum) builds up in the skin, dead skin cells and dirt clog and stretch your pores. This makes them appear larger. Unfortunately, there is not currently a quick cure for pore size in the medical community. There are, however, several reduction treatments available in West Texas that will reduce pore size over time. At the MSCC, we offer non-invasive, minimal downtime skin resurfacing light therapy to reduce pore size and give skin a clearer, more even appearance.

Wrinkles
For deep wrinkles in the lower or upper third of the face, your physician may suggest injectables like neurotoxin or filler (hyperlink to individual landing pages). Many patients, however, also have concerns of light wrinkling or “crepeyness” in their skin. Sometimes, fillers are too thick to both treat these areas and still maintain the natural appearance of the face so many of our patients will opt for laser therapy instead. Our physicians offer minimal to no downtime for skin revitalization procedures that combat these early signs of aging to reduce wrinkles or the skin’s “crepey” appearance.

Dermal Remodeling

We offer treatments designed to stimulate and remodel collagen and address the common signs of aging.

Demand for non-surgical aesthetic procedures with little-to-no downtime is on the rise. More than 70% of patients are bothered by signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, as well as skin texture and discoloration.

Our Secret RF laser is a novel fractional radio-frequency (RF) micro-needling system for tissue coagulation and hemostasis designed to stimulate and remodel collagen and address the common signs of aging. It is ideally suited for use on patients who wish to revitalize and refresh the appearance of their skin on all skin types. By adjusting the micro-needles, Secret RF can deliver energy at various depths, so that treatments can be tailored to address each patient’s individual concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, photo-aging and striae at the depth required.

Laser Hair Removal

We offer safe and effective permanent hair reduction – even on darker skin types that will respond to focal areas of treatment.
